Comments:

  • The area surrounding Freehold can experience all 3 types of lift: thermal, ridge, and mountain wave. The Catskills are just to the south and is a common release point from tow. When the wave sets up you can expect climbs exceeding 12,000ft. The dominant meteorological phenomenon in this area is the Mohawk-Hudson Convergence.

  • The paved runway surface is broken and spalling asphalt. Loose gravel will damage your prop. It is recommended that you land on the grass on the south side of the old runway. There is additional usable grass runway at either end of the strip.

  • Due to field conditions, only bush and light aircraft should attempt landing on the field, and only after prior inspection of the field conditions.

  • Transient aircraft tie downs are available on the grass in front of the old barn hangar. Park between the painted white tires. First come first serve.

  • Aviation grade 100LL is available to members on the field, however, we try to reserve it for the tow plane and aircraft based at Freehold.
